Meet Betty

Meet my Mom!  Betty Lou Foster Smith was born and raised in Monticello, KY. So, those Southern Roots for baking came naturally. My grandmother Bertie Foster, taught my mom how to bake at a very young age. My Mom, Dad, and brother Roger moved to Gardner, KS in 1965. My brother Dan and I came along later. Mom loved the community of Gardner. She made many lifelong friends and did not know a stranger. She always made everyone feel welcomed and cared for.

I want to carry on my mother’s gift for baking comforting pies and cobblers and put my own twist on amazing desserts bringing you that joy of being wrapped in a warm hug and smile. I have created Betty’s Pies & Cobblers to pay homage to my mother who passed away in August of 2015 and keep her gift of love through her baking moving forward. I believe that a piece of pie, cobbler or bread pudding can bring a feeling of comfort over us and create a memory through our senses. So, be prepared to experience some very old-fashioned recipes along with new sensory delights!
